Chimney services Chicago Heights homeowners can book
The work falls into three groups: keeping the flue clean, fixing what's worn or broken, and keeping water and animals out. A routine chimney sweep clears soot and creosote from the flue, and the same visit is a chance to note cracked masonry, a sticking damper or a crown that needs attention before it lets water in.
On the repair side, we handle masonry and crown work, tuckpointing, leaks and flashing, damper problems, liners and full rebuilds. For the top of the chimney, our chimney cap installation service puts a cap and screen in place to keep out rain, birds and squirrels, and we also replace damaged caps and chase covers.
Inside the house, we clean, inspect and repair wood-burning fireplaces, inserts and wood stoves, and we service, repair and install gas fireplaces and gas logs. Dryer vents are part of the same lineup: dryer vent cleaning removes lint buildup, and we also test airflow, clear blockages, reroute runs and replace vent covers.
Matching what you notice to the right visit
You don't need to know the name of the service before you call. Describing what you're seeing is enough for us to plan the visit, and these common signs point to a starting place:
- Smoke drifting into the room, a strong smoky smell, or a fireplace you haven't used in years: start with a cleaning and inspection of the flue.
- Water stains near the chimney, flaking brick or crumbling mortar: ask for a repair assessment, since leaks usually trace back to the crown, flashing or masonry.
- Scratching or chirping in the chimney, or a missing cap: ask about animal removal and a cap with a screen.
- A gas fireplace that won't light, keeps shutting off or shows soot on the glass: ask for gas fireplace service.
- Clothes taking longer to dry, a hot laundry room or lint around the outside vent hood: ask for a dryer vent check and cleaning.
If something seems wrong right now
If you see smoke where it shouldn't be, smell gas or hear a roaring sound from the chimney, stop using the fireplace or appliance, get everyone out if needed, and call emergency services first. If you hear roaring or see flames or sparks from the top of the chimney, get everyone out and call 911. Then get in touch with us to arrange the follow-up work.
Getting ready for a visit
A little preparation makes the visit go smoothly. Stop using the fireplace or wood stove at least a day ahead so the ashes and firebox are cool, clear a few feet of space in front of the hearth, and move fragile items off the mantel. For dryer vent work, pull laundry away from the dryer and make sure the outside vent hood can be reached.
If you own property nearby as well, we also cover homes in Lansing, Calumet City and Dolton.
